The compounds were produced by the fungus Cladosporium sp. strain KF501, which was isolated from the German Wadden Sea. The malettinins are built up of tropolone/dihydropyran ring structures linked to a furan ring. The structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was achieved by means of oneand two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy supported by mass and UV data. The relative configuration of 4 was determined on the basis of single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. 1–4 exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities when profiled against Xanthomonas campestris and Trichophyton rubrum. The influence of the chemical structure of the furan ring and of configurational changes on biological activities was observed.

Isolation of a New Natural Product and Cytotoxic and Antimicrobial Activities of Extracts from Fungi of Indonesian Marine Habitats
In the search for bioactive compounds, 11 fungal strains were isolated from Indonesian marine habitats. Ethyl acetate extracts of their culture broth were tested for cytotoxic activity against a urinary bladder carcinoma cell line and for antifungal and antibacterial activities against fish and human pathogenic bacteria as well as against plant and human pathogenic fungi. The crude extract of a...
متن کاملIsolation and screening of antibacterial and enzyme producing marine actinobacteria to approach probiotics against some pathogenic vibrios in shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei
The application of new probiotics is a good strategy in the biological control of infectious diseases in aquaculture. Approximately 100 marine actinobacteria isolates were obtained from 10 sediment samples of shrimp farms. Heat treatment of sediment samples resulted in a selective reduction of the non actinobacterial heterotrophic microflora. Starch nitrate agar medium exhibited more efficacy t...
متن کاملProduction of bacteriocin by a novel Bacillus sp. strain RF 140, an intestinal bacterium of Caspian Frisian Roach (Rutilus frisii kutum)
Bacteriocins are proteinaceous antibacterial compounds that exhibit bactericidal activity against species closely related to the producer strain. The aim of this research was to investigate the production of bacteriocin by Bacillus spp. isolated from intestinal bacterial flora of the Caspian Frisian Roach (Rutilus frisii kutum). A bacteriocin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus strain RF ...
متن کاملThe Biological Activities of Troponoids and Their Use in Agriculture a Review
Chemical compounds containing the tropone structure (2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one), in their molecule, called troponoids, characterized by a seven-membered ring, are distributed in some plants, bacteria and fungi, although they are relatively rare. ß-Thujaplicin (2-hydroxy-4-isopropyl-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one), also known as hinokitiol, is a natural compound found in several plants of the Cup...
متن کاملSporiolides A and B, New Cytotoxic Twelve-Membered Macrolides from a Marine-Derived Fungus Cladosporium Species
Two new cytotoxic twelve-membered macrolides, sporiolides A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the cultured broth of a fungus Cladosporium sp., which was separated from an Okinawan marine brown alga Actinotrichia fragilis, and the structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data. Sporiolides A (1) and B (2) exhibited cytotoxicity against murine lymphoma L1210 cells. Spoliolide A (1) showed antif...
